Kudos Diapers Wins 2021 Hygienix Innovation Award

Cary, NC, Nov. 23, 2021 – Hygienix™ – the premier event for the absorbent hygiene & personal care markets – drew 390 enthusiastic global industry professionals for enlightening in-person conference sessions, workshops, award presentations, and tabletop receptions Nov. 15-18, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Among the event highlights were the presentation of the 2021 Hygienix Innovation Award™ to Kudos, the first 100 percent cotton disposable diaper, and the INDA Lifetime Service Award to Nick Santoleri, Chief Operating Officer of Rockline Industries.

In its successful post-pandemic return as a live event, participants from 17 countries enjoyed meeting face-to-face at The Westin Kierland in Scottsdale, AZ over three days of cutting-edge presentations at the conference and networking at the welcome and tabletop display receptions.

“Hygienix is a very well-organized event where we can meet the industry’s thought leaders, get updates on the latest developments and make amazing networking connections,” said Anil Kirhalli, Sales and Business Development Director, Kansan Machinery Company.

The Hygienix conference featured 28 speakers on insightful topics including New Options for a Responsible End-of-Life; Product and Process Innovation in Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHPs); Haptics: Four Approaches to Assessing Feel, and E-Hygiene Advancements; Absorbent Hygiene Products Market Stats, Trends and Policy Insights; Feminine Care: Challenges to the Status Quo; and New Approaches and Unmet Needs in Baby and Incontinence AHPs.

“Hygienix provides an excellent forum for the hygiene industry with valuable information and data, as well as meeting new prospects and maintaining existing customer relationships,” said Mark Steinbrecher, Technical Sales Manager-Nonwovens, Optima.

To start the event, nearly 140 participants attended valuable short-course workshops on Absorption Systems for Absorbent Hygiene or Global Trends in Diapers, Baby Pants and Adult Underwear.

Innovation and Service Lauded

Dave Rousse, INDA President, presented INDA’s Lifetime Service Award to Rockline’s Santoleri for his industry leadership and advocacy for over 20-plus years. Named COO a year ago, he started with Scott Paper as a Drexel University co-op student and helped launch the first branded flushable wipes and refillable baby wipe packs. He has been involved with installing 16 new lines and four greenfield facilities and introducing over two dozen nonwoven-based products. Santoleri has also served on INDA’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee as well as Chair of several industry event committees.

Amrita Saigal, Founder and CEO of Kudos Diapers, accepted the 2021 Hygienix Innovation Award™ for the pioneering plant-based earth-friendly diapers that are more natural for baby’s sensitive bottoms. The other finalists for the prestigious annual award were Expandable Core Wrap from Curt G. Joa, Inc. and GlatPure Back Sheet from Glatfelter.

INDA announced Hygienix 2022 will be held Nov. 14-17, 2022 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. To submit an abstract for a conference presentation, click here and visit the event website for developing details.

Innovations in Hygiene & Personal Care Lauded at Premier Event

Cary, NC, Oct. 25, 2021 – With enthusiastic participant registration and continued strong growth projected in absorbent hygiene & personal care markets, excitement is building for the seventh edition of Hygienix as it returns as an in-person event just weeks away, Nov. 15-18, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

INDA reports that more than 300 participants have signed up to attend the conference with participation expected to approach pre-pandemic levels in the 500 range. Registration for Hygienix 2021 and tabletop display reservations remain open.

According to newly released market forecasts published by INDA and EDANA in the Global Nonwoven Markets Report: A Comprehensive Survey and Outlook, 2020-2025, absorbent hygiene – the single largest nonwoven end‐use category – is expected to continue its more than 20 percent growth over the next four years, creating market opportunities in this thriving area.

Hygienix Innovation Award Finalists

Among the conference highlights will be the selection of the Hygienix Innovation Award™. The three finalists are all tapping into key trends that are driving growth in this segment – innovation and sustainability – with products that promote health and a healthy environment.

The INDA/EDANA Global Nonwovens Markets Report found that “product innovation has been and will continue to be a driver in absorbent hygiene products, specifically the quest for discrete products that are thinner, quiet and odorless.”

Award finalists making presentations on Nov. 16 at 4:30 p.m. include:

  • Expandable Core Wrap from Curt G. Joa, Inc. – Chris Nelson, Business Development Manager, will provide an overview of this new patent-pending expandable core wrap design that allows the core to expand within the containment wrap as the product is insulted, regardless of the blended fluff and Superabsorbent Polymer (SAP) ratio. The expandable wrap enables higher SAP cores, resulting in thinner, more absorbent hygiene products. Core materials stay contained within the wrap, reducing leakage risk, decreasing skin irritation, and improving skin health. The expandable core wrap design is available for product cores with and without channels.
  • GlatPure™ Back Sheet from Glatfelter – Vishal Bansal, Ph.D., Vice President, Innovation, will share how this product differs from most back sheets in today’s market that are made from plastic film and nonwovens such as Polyethylene (PE). Unlike materials that are comprised of fossil-fuel-based raw materials, the GlatPure™ back sheet is produced from natural fibers, resulting in the ability to be fully compostable and compliant with the European Single-Use Plastics Directive. This barrier sheet layer used in diaper, incontinence and feminine care products secures against leakage and provides reliable protection while remaining comfortable and discreet.
  • Kudos Diapers from Kudos – According to Kudos Founder & CEO Amrita Saigal, a typical baby spends over 22,000 hours in diapers before potty training, making the material that touches their skin matter. Kudos is the first and only disposable diaper where baby’s bottom touches 100 percent doctor-recommended, carbon-negative, sensitive-skin-friendly cotton all day versus fossil-fuel-derived plastic. Kudos are four times more plant-based than the leading disposable diaper and their patent-pending DoubleDryTM tech builds in twice the absorption layers.

After seeing the products and hearing the finalist’s presentations, Hygienix participants will vote for this year’s Hygienix Innovation Award™ winner. The winner will be announced by INDA President Dave Rousse on Nov. 18, at 11 a.m.

The Hygienix conference program will focus on compelling topics including New Options for a Responsible End-of-Life; Product and Process Innovation in Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHPs); Haptics: Four Approaches to Assessing Feel, and E-Hygiene Advancements; Absorbent Hygiene Products Market Stats, Trends and Policy Insights; Feminine Care: Challenges to the Status Quo; and New Approaches and Unmet Needs in Baby and Incontinence AHPs.

The conference will also feature two nonwovens workshops, a welcome reception and opportunities for 60 tabletop displays with receptions. For the full program and latest speaker lineup, see the Hygienix website. Tabletop display reservations are still available and can be reserved by visiting Hygienix Tabletop Information.

First Event to be Held in São Paulo, Brazil, March 3-5

Brussels, Belgium and Cary, USA – Jan. 28, 2015 – The two global nonwoven trade associations, EDANA and INDA, announce the joint posting of the final OUTLOOK™ Plus Latin America 2015 program to their respective websites.

The first two days of the inaugural three-day conference and exhibition, March 3-5, in São Paulo, Brazil, will examine market, product, and technology intelligence for hygiene and personal care. The third day caps the event with a unique new focus on durable nonwoven applications and future opportunities.

Keynote presenter, Roberto Macedo, Ph.D., leads the conference with global and regional economic prospects for the Mercosul Region (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela). The conference will also highlight latest developments in nonwovens and absorbent hygiene products for these markets and new trends and analysis of components and raw materials led by senior management and industry area experts.

OUTLOOK™ Plus Latin America 2015 offers a unique session and panel discussion on medical nonwovens, addressing why single-use drapes and gowns are not yet used extensively throughout Latin America. Panelists will address the prevailing sentiment in emerging markets that the cost for single-use Operation Room nonwoven products outweigh the benefits.

The third day’s focus on Latin American durable and industrial nonwoven markets features sessions on nonwovens for the shoe and automotive segments with an expert outlook on trends and drivers for growth.

“Product Stewardship is a critical element for companies and our Associations, and is therefore a key element of the program,” said Pierre Wiertz, General Manager of EDANA. “OUTLOOK™ Plus Latin America 2015 is in line with the expectation of our member companies for their trade association to provide leadership in helping them to address the regulatory, product safety, or sustainability challenges facing their business.”

“It is important that INDA reach out to our neighbors in Latin America and provide an appropriate forum to showcase opportunities and trends in nonwoven materials and their important end markets, “ said Dave Rousse, President of INDA. “Together with EDANA, we’ve gathered an impressive group of speakers with a unique expertise on this important and growing region.”

Conference delegates will find the same ingredients that have made the OUTLOOK™ series of conferences across the globe a success, with more than 4,000 delegates across Europe and Asia attending in the last 14 years.

Nonwoven feminine hygiene product helps provide solution to ABL

CARY, NC, Feb. 3 — A new kind of feminine hygiene product that protects women against light to moderate accidental bowel leakage (ABL) has been selected as the 2014 Visionary Award winner by key industry executives from major consumer product companies and their supply chain.

Butterfly Body Liners was selected from four finalist products as the most innovative new consumer product using nonwovens by hundreds of attendees at the VISION Consumer Product Conference in Dallas, Texas. The finalists’ products were on display at the international conference in Dallas with the winner of the prestigious award named on Jan. 30.

Butterfly Body liners are designed to provide secure protection from ABL – a problem that 20% of women over the age of 40 experience and more men are acknowledging.  Butterfly Liners’ patented, innovative design resembles four wings and fits comfortably and discreetly to the body.

Made by Butterfly Health, Inc., the founders of the company have consumer product experience from Procter & Gamble and have secured more than $20 million in start-up capital. National sales of the product began in Target retail stores in January and will soon be in Walmart.

“It’s an honor to receive INDA’s Visionary Award. Supply chain was a critical component for us, along with intellectual property and financing, in launching this new product. INDA connected us to the supply chain we needed and provided invaluable industry contacts, expertise and support. We couldn’t have brought Butterfly Body Liners to market without them,” said Kelly Lewis Brezoczky, founder and CEO of Butterfly Health, Inc., a health advocate for ABL who has co-authored two recent peer-reviewed papers in the International Journal of Clinical Practice on the topic around mature women’s health.

The other finalists for the annual award were: AIR ALLERGY™ Advanced Nasal Filter by AirWare Corp., a discreet personal filter that fits inside the nose and helps protect users from airborne allergens; Laundry-free Linens® by Beantown Bedding, biodegradable, compostable hypoallergenic bed sheets that can be used for weeks and discarded instead of laundering; and MINWAX Wood Finishing Cloths by Pacon Manufacturing Corp., pre-moistened cloths with a water-based wood stain and a protective clear finish for staining and protecting unfinished wood.

“Each year, at our VISION Consumer Products Conference we bring together key elements of the supply chain for consumer products that utilize nonwoven fabrics in some way. New consumer products are showcased here and demonstrate the value of nonwovens in many different uses, said Dave Rousse, INDA President. “INDA’s Visionary Award recognizes innovation and creativity in using nonwoven fabrics to address unmet needs. We congratulate Butterfly Health, Inc. and their category-creating product innovation, Butterfly Body Liners, and their mission to improve consumer’s lives and well-being. Butterfly provides a novel solution to an important health need and is exactly the type of innovation we hope to encourage in the nonwovens industry.”

Tissue regeneration sounds like something from a SciFi movie, doesn’t it? The lead character gets injured and the ship’s doctor runs a device over the wound healing it instantaneously. Well, we’re not quite there yet, but Freudenberg in partnership with BioPharm GmbH has taken the world a step closer with their new nonwoven technology. This technology incorporates GDF-5 (a morphogen that promotes cell proliferation and is a growth protein factor) into nonwovens. Growth protein factors like GDF-5 have been shown to promote or assist the healing process of damaged tissues.

For anyone who has had the dubious honor of having surgery, you know how cold it can get waiting on a hospital gurney (even being transferred to the operating table gives you a chill). Nurses do their best to provide warm blankets, but they seem to cool down too quickly. Now, there could be an alternative with the Barrier EasyWarm blanket. Once it’s opened and unfolded, it stays warm for up to 10 hours . . . plenty of time to keep your toes warm before surgery.
