Tencel in a top sheet for feminine hygiene products? It’s a reality thanks to Yejimin and Lenzing. The result is a smooth surface and a comfortable feeling according to the manufacturer. It’s primarily available in Korea, but it is being exported to the U.S. for Korean women living there . . . perhaps other hygiene products are in the cards for Tencel? We’ll all have to stay tuned . . .

The Genesis of Sustainable Fibres

Code Name: Genesis. Sounds like something from a science fiction movie, doesn’t it? Well, it was actually the secret project name Courtaulds UK used for planning the world’s first solvent-spun cellulose process back in 1979 . . . and it stayed a secret until 1986 when their plans to launch the new fiber were unveiled. Everyone now knows this fiber as Tencel (produced by Lenzing today). It’s interesting to note that even back in 1979 manufacturers of this fiber were aiming to be environmentally friendly . . .

Lenzing Fibers in the Garden Composter with a Clear Conscience

Wipes that biodegrade in the compost? It could happen if those wipes were made with 100% Tencel® or Lenzing Viscose®. Congratulations go out to Lenzing for being awarded the “OK Compost HOME” designation from the Belgian Certification Company, VINÇOTTE, for their fibers. Consumers who buy wipes made with those fibers have a better way to dispose of them than in the trash . . .

New Lenzing Tencel Project Underway

Lenzing is ready to amp up their production of Tencel with a brand, new plant in Austria. They’re not just building the plant without due diligence either. An environmental impact assessment was completed before construction began to make sure they were being responsible stewards of their community. Hats off to Lenzing . . . and get ready for 67,000 tons of new capacity.
